Paul's Prayer of Declaration
“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.” Ephesians 1:17-19 (NKJV)
The book of Ephesians is a letter written by Paul when he was in a Roman prison. It was sent to the church in Ephesus which he led for over two years (Acts 19:10), but the letter circulated among several churches as well. The letter is filled with wisdom, encouragement and great teachings about what it means to be a follower of Christ and how the church should operate. One of the most important messages is that we are unconditionally loved and totally accepted in Christ. The foundation to receive life from these words is based on God’s mercy and grace, not something ‘good’ in us. There is no earning power with God, only receiving a free gift and living in it. Paul’s letter is a great revelation for us today!
Wisdom is Christ in us by the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the Wisdom within us. Understanding Christ is our life wisdom, we are guided in all Truth, with confident belief (I Corinthians 1:30, I John 5:14, John 16:13). Wisdom, the Holy Spirit, becomes the source of our life. (Vs. 17).
Wisdom is the revelation of Jesus Christ in us. Revelation is an inner knowing of something we didn’t know before. Being aware of this movement changes us from within by the Holy Spirit. He gives us power in life, but doesn’t make us religious people. (Vs. 17).
When you say, “Lord Jesus Christ, I want to understand”, your eyes are opened more and more to the power living in you. (Vs. 18). “As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” II Peter 1:3.
The hope of God’s calling is Him in us. God’s calling is a personal journey with Him. He wants us to live as ourselves on earth and to do what is in us to do (Ephesians 2:10). When we stand in our gifted position, a child of the living God, endowed with His Holy Spirit, we can look within and see what is in our heart to do. Desires are of and from God which become a creative potential to be filled by us.
The desires in our hearts are there for a reason. God has a special purpose to be fulfilled in our lives. Seek to discover the hope of God’s calling for you. (Vs. 18).
We experience the riches of His glory when we settle into being God’s will. Riches are the ability to have supernatural peace which is our power, provision and purpose. As the will of God on earth, we enjoy ourselves, others and nature. We adapt to a life of peace and joy. (Vs. 18).
God’s power works within us according to how we believe. When there is an emotional or mental low, it is healthy to work through it, but if it is allowed to continue, it can become an unhealthy (illegal) behavior. If the ‘illegal’ behavior continues, then it’s necessary to go back to the time it began, reclaim it and apply the blood of Jesus to that time and place. Repent for the wrong response and for allowing it to take place. Continue casting it upon the Lord and accept His forgiveness until the ‘low’ completely dissolves. This is the work of faith and a life time career. (Vs. 19).
Holy Spirit, I know You are my helper and You will never leave me nor forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). Thank you for helping me experience Your peace now. I say it to be so by Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
