Delight Yourself in the Lord
“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4
‘Delight yourself’ is to experience great pleasure and satisfaction. It is having complete acceptance and approval from another or whatever causes you to feel delighted. This is a high level of gladness. To be delighted or thrilled because of a job well done is one thing, but to be delighted in a relationship, it is dependent on the feelings of approval, acceptance and safety. ‘Delight yourself’ in Jesus Christ comes from the understanding that He is delighted in you! Jesus was His Father’s daily delight (Proverbs 8:30). He was always rejoicing before His Father. Jesus rejoiced in His Father’s inhabited world. He said, “My delights were with the sons of men.” (Proverbs 8:30-31). By revelation, we see Jesus is delighted with us, and that releases a new ability to be delighted with Him!
‘Delight yourself’ is to trust, do good and delight in the Lord. Know you are the answer for yourself and others by His power. Love God and enjoy Him. Love yourself and enjoy yourself. Love others and enjoy them. Love life and enjoy life. As a result, God’s promise is “He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Our hopes, dreams and desires are God’s will for us on this earth. The greatest way God guides us into our true destiny is by our desires. The desires that arise in our hearts are divine seeds from God that produce the highest and best in our life and for our future. Our heavenly Father delights in giving us the things we desire but, the first desire of our heart should be to learn to walk in the Spirit (Psalm 20:4, Psalm 37:4, Psalm 145:19, Luke 12:31). The desires in our heart are there for a reason. God has a special purpose to be fulfilled in our lives. Desires are the signs that show us our path; they keep us experiencing God’s provision.
When we have Christ as our chief desire, God adjusts all other desires to be in tune with His. Walking with the Lord by His Holy Spirit creates places for new desires. Every new desire brings change. This is the time for praying, observing, adapting and overcoming. Desires require action in order to fulfill our true destiny. When we experience change in life, we are out of our comfort zone. As we step out in faith, there will be times of discouragement, fear, unworthiness, of being uncomfortable, self-pity and doubt. This is not the time to give in to old patterns or give up. God gives us strength and courage for all things and work every situation for our good (Romans 8:28, Philippians 4:13).
God loved us first (I John 4:19). When we have the revelation that the Creator and Redeemer has perfect and unconditional love for us, He makes real to every believer in Christ every provision of every promise. As we learn to live in His love, our delight in Him increases. God’s joy is in us by the power of the Holy Spirit makes us joyful (John 15:11). Obeying the Lord’s Word is easy when we see He gave us the Holy Spirit for strength. “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Comforter; that He may abide with you forever.” John 14:15-16. Comforter means call on for help; the strong one who strengthens. The Holy Spirit is in us and He is always available to be our helper (Hebrews 13:6).
God has a personal design for every person who accepts Jesus Christ as Savior. His divine purpose for us is to discover what is written in our heart and do it! Keep moving forward in faith. Every desire we pray about and believe (expect), we will have (Mark 11:24). It is important to believe that by the design of God, we can have anything we imagine by faith. Allow yourself to imagine all desires without human filters of unbelief or limitation. Love life and enjoy life!
Thanks be to You, Lord Jesus Christ, for Your mercy endures forever! Amen.
