God Gives Us Power
"Behold, I give to you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice that your names are written in heaven." Luke 10:19-20 NKJV
God desires to give us supernatural power. We can access and operate in the supernatural power of God to overcome any trial or test that comes our way. Power is the ability to act in a confident way, with inner boldness, assured that we have the backing of someone larger than us. God supernaturally endows every believer with His power by the Holy Spirit when we accept Him as Savior. He gives us His power so we can walk in power and victory through Christ. God promised us not only would we have His Holy Spirit living in us, but He would show wonders and do mighty miracles through us by the power of the Holy Spirit working in us and through us.
Serpents are obstacles in our lives. A scorpion is one who bites with poison. The defeated original sin will always attempt to bite us or have us bite another with poison. To tread on serpents and scorpions, speak to the situation with faith statements in a personal, present-tense way based on God’s Word. By Jesus Christ’s name and the power of the Holy Spirit, nothing can block my good. I can’t wait to see what good is coming to me through this situation (Romans 8:28). We have power over the old life coming from the original sin which is based on pride, fear, greed, jealousy or blame.
The enemy is the devil who attempts to rob, kill and destroy. Jesus Christ broke the power of sin by His death on the cross; it no longer exists. We have the power over any evil the devil attempts. Nothing can hurt us as we place our faith in God’s love. We, in a no-offense, no regret life, are willing to move forward under the direction of God.
It is important to internalize the greatness and power of God, given to us so we can view every situation as Romans 8:28 and Ephesians 3:20. Everything that comes into our lives has already been stamped by Jesus. “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). The provision of the promise is paid for and blessed by Jesus Christ (Acts 3:26). Sin is defeated by Jesus Christ; He destroyed the works of the devil (Hebrews 2:14, I John 3:8).
Because of these scriptures, we have the confidence of supernatural power, the power to accept our good and the power to cast off every demonic force.
God’s Power Given to Us
1. We have been given the power to believe on Christ and have everlasting life (John 6:40). To believe on Christ is to call His name to be saved. When we speak the name Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes forth in us as a power greater than we are (Romans 10:9). This is a life changing revelation. Through Jesus Christ, we have been given a power greater than we are to be our supernatural helper.
2. We have been given the power to maintain a faith-love attitude. God is love in action. Faith works by His love (I John 4:8). The scripture teaches the meaning of love, how to apply love and what love is. With the revelation of God’s love, our faith is meaningful and effective. This requires understanding and practice because we have experienced a life of wrong thinking and wrong speaking.
3. We have been given the power to believe the promises of God in Christ are ‘yes’ and ‘amen’ (II Corinthians 1:20). This can be a challenge to believe because many humans say the opposite. It is easy to give more power to our opinions than to God’s Word. Face everything, every situation and every person with grace instead of humanism.
