2016... A Great and Prosperous Year!
"Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan..." Joshua 1:2
"...Prepare you victuals; for within three day ye shall pass this Jordan..." Joshua 1:11
As we enter into the calendar year of 2016, it is understandable to wonder what this year will hold. 2016 is a season of prosperity, power and increase; we have to prepare ourselves for such a year! God blessed all people with prosperity, power and the ability for increase, to grow greater in all areas; to be ready for new opportunities for growth and abundance.
After Moses died, Joshua had an encounter with God who appointed him to lead His people into the Promised Land of increase. Joshua understood the necessity of preparation to receive miracles from God. His courage, wisdom, submissiveness and faithfulness to God made him a fit leader. With Joshua in authority came an increase of faith for the miraculous. He had to motivate the discouraged Israelites to revive their faith in God and believe in the Word of the Lord. We have to believe in our hearts for increase by faith as well. With faith in God and in His Word, we will receive increase. Faith is the key to release His unlimited power in our lives. Increase creates new life in us to rule our world and fulfill all that God has for us.
Joshua told the Israelites to sanctify themselves, to free themselves from sin and devote themselves to God because on the third day, the Lord was going to do wonders among them. The number three signifies change and miracles. Crossing the Jordan River symbolized a celebration as they prepared to experience new life in the Promised Land.
Sanctification is the call of God for every believer in Jesus Christ. Sanctification is not something that we earn or deserve; it is a result of salvation. Sanctification is not instantaneous nor does it stop with salvation, but it is a process that continues throughout a Christian's life. Sanctification relates to an act of God whereby He 'sets us apart' for a specific, divine purpose; it is our new nature, created in holiness. When we realize we are sanctified, the process is the Holy Spirit at work in us. The only requirement is to release the Holy Spirit to reveal what we are meant to be, meant to do (I Corinthians 1:2). We contribute to sanctification through our efforts.
God says for the new things to begin, we are to live in the present, face the future and leave the past behind. Dwelling on the past sin inhibits God's power, freedom and peace. The nature of our lives is determined by our inner attitudes. When we change our thinking, speaking and behavior based on God's Word, our circumstances change for the better; it is the beginning of wisdom and harmonious, purposeful living. We don't know what the future holds, but we know God will see us through.
Now is the time to experience the unlimited connection to Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit and see amazing results! We have experienced many challenges throughout our lives and this past year. Sometimes we allow them to enslave us to a point that we do not enjoy the full Christian life God has given us. It is tradition in our society to make resolutions at the beginning of a new year. God's Word doesn't mention making resolutions, but it does urge us to examine our lives regularly and seek God's help.
I declare a blessed life of prosperity, power and increase for everyone in the year 2016 (Psalm 115:14). My prayer of faith declarations is for everyone to take the opportunity on the first Sunday of the month to say how your life will go in 2016. Remind yourself that you are created in the image of God; God spoke and things appeared. Let us recognize, affirm and act upon it, because of Jesus Christ all things are possible (Mark 9:23). Put this in your mind again and again until it is part of your belief system without strain or struggle.
As we begin the New Year, resolve to become more of God's likeness and image. With the help of the Holy Spirit pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness (I Timothy 6:11).
