"Thou hast turned for me my mourning (regrets) into dancing: thou hast put put off my sackcloth (old man of sin), and girded me with gladness; to the end that my glory (results of my life) may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee forever." Psalm 30:11-12
Prayer is the most powerful force in the universe; it is God's path to hope, joy, endurance and love. Faith and love toward God leads us to recognize His presence with us, to talk with Him and to sense Him. We express thanks, faith, love and our hopes in God with prayer. We receive from God answers, assurance, guidance, peace, strength, power, revelation of who He is and what He wants us to do (Matthew 7:7-8, John 16:13, Philippians 4:6-7, Ephesians 1:17-18).
Prayer signifies the highest method of communication with God. Prayer lifts us out of our human emotions and knowledge of God. All things are known and understood in God's Spirit; there is a supply and a fulfillment for every divine desire. We experience a relationship with God through prayer by the help of the Holy Spirit. The deepest need for us is to know God as our personal Creator, Redeemer and friend. The quality of our prayer life determines the quality of our relationship with Him.
Prayer is not simply saying words, repeating formulas or getting things for ourselves; it is talking with God, listening to God and enjoying His presence. In God's Word, Jesus tells us not to make meaningless repetitions of words when we pray (Matthew 6:7). When we understand and incorporate the principles of prayer, it is a dynamic power. To experience the results of this magnificent power, it is important to constantly and instantly practice praying (Romans 12:12). This does not mean that every minute we are praying, it means to take time to pray and persist in prayer. When we are constant in prayer, God will show us more than we ever dreamed He would. God is available any time and He loves to help.
The more we practice praying, the more ways the Lord reveals to us how to pray. It is essential that we know how to use the correct form of prayer which is the proper use of words (Proverbs 25:11). There is great power in our words! David knew how to pray. Some people think they don't need to know how to pray skillfully, believing it only matters that they pray. The Bible says, "A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!" Proverbs 15:23.
To practice praying is to take action. Many times we think we do not have the time or energy to pray; life has become too busy and hectic. We easily buy into the false belief that we must be doing something so we are not perceived as being lazy or unworthy. Our belief system will not change until we experience prayer actually working. We need to challenge our belief system and be willing to discover by praying, we release a high form of energy. This energy changes our attitude, uplifts our mind and alters our circumstances.
The Lord is faithful to reveal to us all areas in our lives. Be willing to surrender and open yourself to Him. Do not block the natural flow of God by attitudes of unbelief, mistrust, lack, hurt, rebellion, uptight thinking which clogs our minds, hearts and belief systems. These hindrances will reduce our sense of acceptance by God, our answers to prayer and our understanding of Him. Surrendering to the Lord is not a passive act of giving up; it is a word of action that takes us to the place of divine and proper relationship with the Lord. To surrender to the Lord, we say yes to our prayers for fulfillment and for every desire of our hearts to become real in life.
God makes available potential for complete provision and amazing results, but He will not predict our success; we do that by faith. What was finished and provided through Jesus Christ is available to everyone, but it must be received by faith. Prayers do come true even when it feels as though God has not heard us. God's time frame is different than ours. It is important to treat our prayer life with great respect and knowing God is magnificent and faithful. By faith, God moves and He will answer our prayers.
Prayer is not a normal part of our natural life. When anyone is born again, the life of the Son of God is born in that person; we can either starve or nourish that life. Prayer is the way the life of Jesus Christ is nourished in us. We may look upon prayer simply as a means of getting things for ourselves, but the Bible's purpose of prayer is to get to know God by having an intimate relationship with Him. Build communication with God every day based on His Word by faith for what He has already done; He will respond to our prayers with power and grace! Live a life of prayer and receive what God has for you.
